Break Me Page 6

His hand drops away from my face and his once sad eyes light with fire. “What did you expect, Brealynn? You move off to college three fucking hours away and expect me to what, wait around on you? You weren’t there for me, Brea. You caused this.”

At his statement, my blood boils over. I stand up from the bench with my book bag in hand and glare at him. “I wasn’t there for you?! Me? I was there every weekend for you, Nick! I gave you everything I could and all you did was take and take from me! And of all the girls, you chose Alex!” I yell. I probably look like a mad woman, but I can’t help it. He has pissed me the hell off.

I wasn’t there for him. Pshh.

“Is there a problem here?” I hear from behind me. Tim walks up beside me and wraps his arm around my shoulder. Nick looks at Tim, and I see the shock in his eyes, but it only takes him a second to recover.

“Looks like you’ve made some new friends,” Nick states as he stands, sizing Tim up.

“Looks like you’ve made some new enemies,” Tim replies, not intimidated in the least.

I need coffee. Bad. Parker and I were up most of the night after we left the hospital, practicing for the first round of our competition this weekend. The payout is twenty grand for first place, which I plan to win.

Walking up to Cougar Beans, I see Brealynn with a guy sitting on a bench. They are close, but not within hearing range. I see his hand come up to cup her face, and then he kisses her. He kisses my Brealynn.

Whoa. Did I just call her mine?

A low growl escapes as my lips press tight together. Clenching my teeth, I try to remind myself that she’s not mine, although, she sure as hell seemed like mine when that sweet ass of hers was in my fuckin’ lap with her tongue down my damn throat. I take a step closer, fist balled at my sides, muscles tense, when I see Tim walking up to them and decide to make my way into the coffee shop.

She’s not my battle, I tell myself. I don’t need to get myself in too deep. I just need to focus on riding. It’s what I do best. Not relationships. The only relationship I have is with my bike.

Brealynn invited me out to a club with her this weekend, and when I agreed, I had forgotten about the competition Parker and I had signed up for a few months back. After seeing another man’s hands on her, it set a fire within me that I can’t seem to extinguish. No matter how hard I try, I keep seeing his lips on hers. Hated his hands on her. I want my hands to be on her.

  All over her.

I haven’t heard from Brealynn since yesterday. Since he was here. My own jealousy has led me to her door.

“Colt, hey,” she says sounding surprised to see me and out of breath.

  Is he in there?

“I wanted to let you know I can’t make it this weekend. There’s a competition.” I lean against her doorframe, pushing the door open slightly to peek in and take in her appearance. She’s wearing black workout shorts so short if she would turn around I am positive I could see that nice ass of hers peeking out. A tight pink tank top wraps her body, drawing my attention to her breasts.

“Oh,” she states sounding disappointed. “Well, you could have texted me. You didn’t have to come all the way over here.” And I swear I hear a little aggression in her voice.

I move in closer to her and toy with a strand of hair lying down her shoulder and slightly over her breast. She stares up at me with those piercing blue eyes that are begging me to touch her.

“Come see me ride this weekend. It’s the last trial before the finals,” I ask her, surprising myself. I never invite girls with me. Maybe home with me but never to the actual competition. The only girl who had a standing invitation was my mom…

She hesitates for a quick second then replies with a sweet smile as she shyly looks up at me, “Maybe, if you’re good.”

I push her hair back behind her ear. “You should let me show you just how good I can be.” She looks down with a smile. Softly gripping her chin, I pull those eyes back to mine. “It will happen, B. We both know it,” I confess to her sternly.

Her eyes widen a little at my honesty and her breathing picks up speed.

“Like I said, if you’re good,” she replies on an exhale as I place my lips to hers. For now, claiming her.

  Brealynn

“That was so hot,” Kelsey states in a whisper as I click the door shut to our room.

Kelsey and I decided to do some workout exercises we found on Pinterest to help me relieve some of the tension built up from dealing with Nick yesterday. We were mid-workout when Colt showed up. At first, I was disappointed when Colt canceled on coming out to Risk with us, but then when he invited me to watch him, warmth radiated through my body. I would much rather watch Colt than go to a club.

“I don’t know what to do with that boy,” I sigh walking across the room.

“The hell you don’t!” Kelsey exclaims as I take a seat on the bed, our Pinterest escapades forgotten.

“Kels, you know what I mean. I’m apparently still dealing with bullshit from Nick.” I’m still burnt from what Nick did to me; I don’t want to put that on Colt.

Would I turn into that crazy girl who never trusts the guy she is with? I can’t just be another girl for him. I like him too much already. I need more than one night with him and that terrifies me.

“Nick smick, he sucks. You need to focus on what’s right in front of you,” she replies, like it’s that easy.

“So, are you coming with me?” I counter.

“I would never miss the chance to see a bunch of hot males riding around on bicycles. Come on, Brea, you know better. Besides, maybe I can ride one of them?” A wicked smile covers her face.

“Do we need to go over the definition of a slore?” I giggle jokingly.

“I think we do. Apparently, you have lost all your whoring abilities by letting Colt Taylor just keep walking away from you,” she teases.

“I don’t want to be just another girl for him,” I confide to my best friend.

“I get it. Although, if it makes a difference, I think Colt really likes you.”

It does make a difference. It makes my heart rate pick up and butterflies erupt in my stomach.

  Colt

“You invited Brealynn? Are you crazy? You know Alex will be there,” Parker says, confirming what I already know.

Alex has still been texting and sexting me. I delete them all. I used to find her somewhat attractive, but it seems like all my dick wants these days is Brealynn. Not that I’d even touch Alex to begin with, but B, she’s a different story. I would bury my cock deep inside her tight-ass little body for days. Just thinking about claiming her has my dick hard.

“I don’t give a damn about Alex. Can you fuck her and get her off my dick, please?”

“She got old real quick. I won’t be touching her again,” Parker admits as he throws a cup in the sink.

“I’m surprised you actually invited Brealynn out in the first place. You ready to be a one woman guy?” Parker’s question spurs emotion in me. I’m just not exactly sure what the emotion is.

“It’s different with her,” is all I say, and my brother nods in understanding. We have always just gotten one another. Only a year apart in age, we grew up doing everything together. He is my best friend, most days.

When he’s not being an asshole.

  Brealynn

“Come in!” Kelsey and I say in sync.

Colt walks in our room grinning ear to ear. “Have you ladies seen your whiteboard recently?”

I run my hand down my face. “Do I even want to know?”

“It says ‘Colt Zoned.’ And I swear I did not write it!” Colt’s laugh is contagious. I wouldn’t mind being in his zone.

“What the hell, I don’t belong to you! You’re vagina blocking me! Brea?” Kelsey shouts. At this point, I’m laughing so hard I can’t respond.

“Who’s vagina blocking who?” Savannah says as she walks into the room.

Wow. What a conversation to walk in on.
r />   “Have you not seen our whiteboard?!”

“Oh yeah, I have!” Now that she’s in on the hilariousness of this situation, she’s laughing, too.

Kelsey rushes out to erase it while Colt comes over and sits down on my bed. “I swear that it wasn’t me. Not that I care that it’s written there,” he smirks placing a kiss to my forehead.

Savannah chimes in, “It was Tim. I saw him writing it this morning.”

“That makes you a vagina blocking accomplice!” Kelsey points at Savannah while stomping back into the room.

Yup, that’s my best friend, folks.

“What did you write on it, Kels?” I say because I know her better than anyone does, and she had to put her two cents in.

“‘Tim’s a vagina blocking bitch tit.’”

At that comment, I lose it. I’m doubled over laughing on the bed. I love our language. “In all seriousness, can I have the room alone, please?” I try to convey a straight face and contain my laughter at the same time.

Savannah quickly walks out and Kelsey follows. “Sure Brea, not a vagina blocking friend here!” After she shuts the door, I hear her loud and clear from the other side yell, “Unlike someone I know!”

“Rule number one, no blocking. Got it,” Colt chuckles.

I start laughing again. “Yeah, she’s a little on the crazy side, but I love her.”

Colt scoots closer to me, leaving one leg bent at the knee on the bed and the other on the floor and I realize now that I’m in my lounge pants, tank top, and messy bun. So sexy. He, of course, looks amazing in light wash denim jeans with a black v-neck t-shirt.

“So, I was wondering if we could actually go out on a date. Tonight. Just you and me and none of our crazy-ass friends. I don’t know how long I’ll get to see you tomorrow with the competition and everything.”

His smile seals the deal. “That sounds great. Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise. Just be ready by eight thirty. Dress comfortable,” he says while those dimples make another appearance. I’m learning there is a lot about this man that’s becoming hard to resist. His smile and the way his eyes crinkle a tiny bit as his white teeth light up his face. Yeah, that’s at the very top of the list.

Standing, he pulls me off the bed and into his arms. Cupping the back of my head, he guides my mouth up toward his. His other arm fastens around my waist, holding my body tightly to him as spearmint erupts on my taste buds.

“So, the whole Alex situation is weird,” Kelsey comments as we sit down on one of the couches in the back of Cougar Beans.

My stomach dips at the thought of being alone with Colt tonight. I had to get out of the dorm before I went crazy obsessing over how the night will go. Over what my body will fight for my mind to allow.

“We knew that she would be here. I just didn’t think I would be in direct contact with her so much. We had plans, and she’s not going to ruin all of them, no matter how hard she tries.” Alex made it her mission to interfere with everything I showed interest in. It got much worse senior year when I started dating Nick, and now I know why.

Kelsey scrunches up her face in disgust. “I really don’t like that bitch. Every time I see her face, it makes me want to walk up and throat check her. You know she’s not going to back off Colt.”

Not as long as I want him, she won’t. It will just make her more crazed to get to him first. Like everything else I’ve ever wanted. Cheerleading captain, she somehow got the position. Class president, yup, she got that, too. Rumor was she screwed her way through the jocks for votes…

Savannah appears in front of our table, interrupting our conversation, which I am thankful for. I don’t want to think about Alex right now. That slut gives me a headache.

“So, last night was cray. I woke up to Hannah fucking drawing a penis on my forehead this morning,” Savannah announces as she plops down on the couch opposite of Kelsey and me. “Y’all shouldn’t laugh. Next time it could be you and you will need my knowledge in permanent marker removal.”

“So, did you get any penis last night? Or is the one Hannah gave you all you got?

  Kelsey is still laughing.

“Real cute, bitch.” Savannah shoots a humorless glare toward Kelsey.

I open my dorm door to find Colt dressed in light wash jeans and a red TBX t-shirt that brings out the black ink that wraps around his well-toned arms.

I have to remember to get a better look at those.

His hair is styled in a perfect mess and his brown eyes are drinking me in.

“Ready?” He wraps an arm around my shoulders and walks us through the hall.

  “Where are we going?”

“Still a surprise.” He smirks. We walk out to his truck and pull out of the parking lot.

“Are you planning on killing me and burying my body where no one will find me?” I look over at Colt with a sly smile. We are heading down a dark dirt road in the middle of nowhere. It’s a valid question.

“What if I said I was taking you out in the middle of nowhere to have my way with you?” He mimics the smile that was on my face.

Um, what do I say to that? Where can I sign up?

Laughing he adds, “I’m taking you to my land.”

“You own land?” My eyebrows squish together in confusion. I wasn’t aware that he owns part of the earth.

“Yeah, my parents gave me and Parker ten acres when we graduated from high school. It’s actually the same land my house sits on now. We are just going out to the backside of it.”

He steers us off the gravel road and straight into a field. I grab the ‘oh shit’ handle as the truck hits bump after bump, making its way across the uneven field. Coming to a sharp halt, Colt puts the truck in park. Once all the dust settles around us, I am staring at a small BMX track, or whatever you call it. There is a giant ramp, some dirt jumps off to the side and other items I don’t know the name of. There’s also this beautiful pond that stretches out at least the size of half a football field. It has a dock that leads out to the water, which makes me crave summertime. It’s dark and I can’t really make out many details, but from what I can see, this place is breathtaking. Lights from a house shine in my view about a mile up ahead. That must be their house.

Colt opens my door and helps me out of the truck. Walking us around to the back, he pulls the tailgate down and removes his bike out of the bed, placing it against his truck tire.

“It’s so crazy that you can do all that stuff on a bicycle.” My voice is full of amazement.

“Bike,” he corrects with a cocky smile.

“Same thing.” The rumble of laughter that leaves his throat causes my face to beam.

An electric jolt runs through my body as his fingers wrap around my hips, digging in enough to grab a firm hold. Our eyes collide while a tangible moment passes between us, eyes searching the others for a sign we’re both feeling the same connection. Too soon, Colt throws up his defense mechanism, shielding his feelings seconds before lifting me onto the tailgate of his truck.

“This is where I train when I’m not out on the road. Parker and I built this box over the years.” His hands caress my thighs as he stands between my legs.

  “Box?”

“It’s when you have numerous types of ramps,” he informs me. Colt’s arms snake up my legs, hips, and wrap around my waist. “This place calms me.” He takes a deep breath in and glances up at the sky. “Plus, the stars look absolutely amazing at night,” he mentions as he lowers his gaze to mine.

“Colt Taylor, did you bring me out here to stargaze with you? How nineteen nineties of you,” I joke, nudging him on the shoulder to bring his thoughts back to now.

He holds me tight to his body. “You caught me,” he jokes, but his eyes hold a small amount of sadness in them.

“Lay down with me?” I ask pulling away from him and scooting back to lie back on the blanket before he climbs into the bed of the truck.

  “B, we just got here.”

  “Oh, you got j
okes.” I laugh as he moves up in the bed of the truck to lie down next to me. We both lay flat on our backs staring up at the sky that is glittered in stars.

“Come here,” Colt’s soft voice demands as he stretches his arm out, inviting me into the nook of his shoulder. Without hesitation, I move into him. His arm closes in tight around my waist, and I try to ignore how perfect we fit. We lay there in silence staring at the stars and my mind starts to wander. I really don’t know that much about Colt.

Damn. Maybe I should rethink what a slore is.

“What happened between you and your ex?” Colt bluntly asks.

“I caught him cheating. And that was that.” My eyes stay focused on the stars above me.

“It’s never that simple.” Oh, but it is. If it only were that simple to forget, to burn the images out of my brain.

Preparing myself for the spill, I sigh and begin to explain it to him. “We started dating my senior year, and when I got accepted to college, we agreed to make it work. It was working, or I thought it was. I would drive home every weekend to see him. He made the trip to see me once, and we went to a party at your house. I lost Nick during the party and ran into Parker, who told me that he saw Nick with some girl in the laundry room. He said I should just follow him to his room and make it even. Of course, I didn’t. I also didn’t believe Nick was in the laundry room. Parker led me to the back of the house in search of Nick. He was passed out drunk on the floor.”

“So Parker lied?” I can feel the uncertain vibes flowing from him.

“Well, at the time I thought so,” I admit. “Turns out that he was probably telling the truth because I came home during break and caught Alex and Nick together.”

I hear Colt inhale a breath.

  Yeah, sucks.

“What was Alex doing there in the first place?”

“Alex is from the same town as I am. She and I go way back.” I’m unable to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. Colt sits up, bringing me with him and pulls away enough to look into my eyes, his hands cupping my face. His stare captures me and pulls at the depths of my soul easing the chaos that was taking place after being dragged back into those memories.
